Heavenly Father, today we pray for the Honourable Demetrios Nicolaides, MLA for Calgary-Bow and Minister of Education and Childcare. Thank You for the education and experience he brings from political science, mediation, conflict resolution, and reconciliation work. Demetrios was born and raised in Calgary and is a long-time resident of west Calgary. His parents came to Canada as new Canadians and built their lives here through hard work and perseverance. During his doctoral studies, Demetrios also participated in peacebuilding and reconciliation activities in Cyprus. As he oversees Alberta’s education and childcare systems, give him exceptional wisdom. Help him see beyond statistics and policies to the individual children, parents, and educators affected by each decision. Help him listen carefully when perspectives differ and recognize opportunities for common ground. Bless Demetrios, his wife, and their five daughters with health and peace. May his experience as a father, educator, and public servant strengthen his leadership. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
The Honourable Demetrios Nicolaides was re-elected as the MLA for Calgary-Bow in 2023 and currently serves as Minister of Education and Childcare. He previously served as Minister of Education and Minister of Advanced Education. Before entering politics, Demetrios worked as a communications consultant and taught at the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Manitoba. He holds a PhD in political science, a master’s degree in conflict studies, and a bachelor’s degree in international relations. Born and raised in Calgary, he lives in Calgary-Bow with his wife and two daughters.
