Lord God, we pray for Hon. Norm Letnick today. Thank you for the gifts you have placed in his life that enable him to lead. We ask that you would help him as he oversees Agriculture in our province. Grant him all that he needs as he serves our province in this way. Bless those that surround him with sound wisdom and great foresight as they oversee agriculture in British Columbia today as well as plan for the future. May his relationships be rich and rewarding and keep him and his family from harm and sickness. Direct his path we pray. In Jesus name, amen.
Norm Letnick was appointed Minister of Agriculture on April 11, 2014.
Letnick also is a member of the Treasury Board and Legislative Review Committee, as well as vice-chair of the Cabinet Committee on Strong Economy – and is also significantly involved in Francophone affairs-related matters and Intergovernmental Affairs, including relations with the consular corps.
Representing the Kelowna-Lake Country riding since 2009, Letnick has previously served as Minister of Agriculture (2012-13) and as chair of the Select Standing Committee on Health, and a Member of the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services and the Select Standing Committee on Public Accounts.
Prior to his election as an MLA, Letnick sat on municipal council in both Kelowna (2005-08) and Banff (1992-98) and was a tenured Associate Professor in Okanagan University College’s business program.
He has extensive business experience, having owned several financial services and technology related firms, and has served his community as president of the Kelowna and Banff Rotary Clubs, the Banff Tourism Bureau and the Kelowna Gyro Club. He was also chair of the Banff Hospital Board and Municipal Planning Commission, president of the Banff Housing Corporation and secretary/treasurer of the Banff Shine Club. In 2009, Letnick received the Canadian Cancer Society’s Regional Community Champion Award, in recognition of his Gala of Hope fundraising work.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with a Rhodes Scholarship Nomination from the University of Calgary, a Master of Business Administration degree from Edinburgh’s Heriot-Watt University and achieved candidacy status for a PhD in Health Economics from the University of British Columbia.
Letnick remains active in his home community of Kelowna where he lives with his wife and three children.
