MLA Lori Sigurdson, Edmonton-Riverview

Father in Heaven, we thank you today for MLA Lori Sigurdson. We thank you for the various roles she has held, and we pray that wherever she serves, she would be a blessing and a light. Guide her as she works, and fill her with wisdom. Bless her family, may they all know your peace and presence today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Lori Sigurdson was elected in 2015 and re-elected on April 16, 2019. She currently serves the deputy chair of the Standing Committee on Families and Communities. During her first term she serve as Minister of Innovation and Advanced Education, Minister of Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour, and as Minister of Seniors and Housing. Throughout her 25-year career as a social worker, she worked in many fields, including child welfare, mental health, community development, and social policy. She was also an instructor of social work at the University of Calgary, MacEwan University and NorQuest College. In recognition of her outstanding contributions Ms. Sigurdson was awarded the John Hutton Memorial Award for social action and policy in 2017. The mother of three sons, Ms. Sigurdson is committed to community service. She has served as the Vice President of Public Interest Alberta, and has been involved with the Parkland Institute, the Greater Edmonton Alliance, the Mayor’s Task Force for the Elimination of Poverty, and others. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Alberta as well as bachelor and master of social work degrees from the University of Calgary.
