MLA Lori Sigurdson, Edmonton-Riverview

Dear Jesus, may you bless Lori Sigurdson as she serves the people of Edmonton-Riverview in our legislature. Father, we thank you for her past experience as a social worker that best suits her to serve as the deputy chair of the Standing Committee on Families and Communities. Jesus help her to balance her public life with her responsibility as a mother of three children so that their needs will also be met and we thank you for her.  In the wonderful name of Jesus, Amen.

Lori Sigurdson was elected in 2015 and re-elected on April 16, 2019. She currently serves the deputy chair of the Standing Committee on Families and Communities. During her first term she served as Minister of Innovation and Advanced Education, Minister of Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour, and as Minister of Seniors and Housing. Throughout her 25-year career as a social worker, she worked in many fields, including child welfare, mental health, community development, and social policy. She was also an instructor of social work at the University of Calgary, MacEwan University and NorQuest College. In recognition of her outstanding contributions Ms. Sigurdson was awarded the John Hutton Memorial Award for social action and policy in 2017. The mother of three sons, Ms. Sigurdson is committed to community service. She has served as the Vice President of Public Interest Alberta, and has been involved with the Parkland Institute, the Greater Edmonton Alliance, the Mayor’s Task Force for the Elimination of Poverty, and others. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Alberta as well as bachelor and master of social work degrees from the University of Calgary.
