MLA Lori Sigurdson, Edmonton-Riverview

Thank you, Lord, for Lori’s diligent work to make life more affordable for Albertans. May this virtue of commitment to community service continue to grow. Give her wisdom in all her life dealings – personal and political. May you abundantly bless her and her family in all that they do which is in line with your will and your ways. Lori Sigurdson was elected in 2015 and re-elected on April 16, 2019. She currently serves the deputy chair of the Standing Committee on Families and Communities. During her first term she serve as Minister of Innovation and Advanced Education, Minister of Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour, and as Minister of Seniors and Housing. Throughout her 25-year career as a social worker, she worked in many fields, including child welfare, mental health, community development, and social policy. She was also an instructor of social work at the University of Calgary, MacEwan University and NorQuest College. In recognition of her outstanding contributions Ms. Sigurdson was awarded the John Hutton Memorial Award for social action and policy in 2017. The mother of three sons, Ms. Sigurdson is committed to community service. She has served as the Vice President of Public Interest Alberta, and has been involved with the Parkland Institute, the Greater Edmonton Alliance, the Mayor’s Task Force for the Elimination of Poverty, and others. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Alberta as well as bachelor and master of social work degrees from the University of Calgary.
