MLA: Marc Dalton – Maple Ridge-Mission (Demo)

Marc Dalton was re-elected as Liberal MLA for Maple Ridge-Mission on May 14, 2013.

Marc is currently sitting as an Independent MLA while seeking the federal Conservative nomination for the riding of Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge.

Marc served as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Education for the Independent School Sector. He was also Deputy Chair of the Committee of the Whole, a presiding officer overseeing debate in the Legislature along with the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, from June 2013 to February 2014.

Marc has served on a number of Select Standing Committees including Finance, Public Accounts, Children and Youth, Education, Aboriginal Affairs and the Special Committee to Review the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act. He was also a member of the Cabinet Committee on Secure Tomorrow.

Since being elected, Marc has been on the political steering committee for Experience the Fraser, a visionary trails and tourism project for both sides of the Fraser River between Hope and the ocean.

Before being elected to the Legislative Assembly in 2009, Marc was a long-time teacher in the Maple Ridge School District at both the elementary and secondary school levels. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in French and History and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, both from Simon Fraser University.

Raised in a military family, he has lived in bases across the country and served in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves after graduating. He is a member of the Maple Ridge branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.

Marc is Aboriginal (Metis) and speaks French. He has represented British Columbia at national francophone events as President of the Francophone Assembly, British Columbia section.

He is a resident of Maple Ridge and has been married to his wife, Marlene, for 30 years. They have three grown children, Justin, Simone and Hannah.
