MLA Mark Smith, Drayton Valley-Devon

Today, Lord God, we give you thanks for the service Mr. Mark Smith offers to his constituents and to all Albertans. We recognize his love for people and for serving you in this role and are grateful. Lord, we ask for favour as Mr. Smith researches the various issues presented to the Assembly each session. Help him to connect resources and people together for the betterment of governance and legislation. Bless his family, meeting their needs, and favour them with a restful time of recreation. Mark Smith was elected to his second term as MLA for Drayton Valley-Devon, on April 16, 2019. He currently serves as chair of the Standing Committee on Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing. He also serves a member of the Standing Committee on Resource Stewardship. Prior to his election as a Member of the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Smith was a social studies teacher with 30 years of experience as an educator. Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Mr. Smith completed his post secondary education in Alberta. He began studying at Concordia College in 1979 and later received his bachelor of education degree from the University of Alberta. An avid sportsman who enjoys football, hockey and basketball, Mr. Smith has dedicated a great deal of his personal time over the past 30 years to volunteering as a basketball coach. He has also volunteered on the board for Calvary Baptist church in Drayton Valley for many years. Mr. Smith and his wife, Lisa, have three children: Joshua, Luke and Sarah.
