Simon Gibson was elected MLA for Abbotsford-Mission in 2013 and appointed as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Education for Independent Schools on February 18, 2015. He is currently a member of Treasury Board, the Pacific Northwest Economic Region Committee, the Select Standing Committee on Public Accounts, the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services, and the Special Committee to Review the Personal Information Protection Act. Simon has been a resident of the Fraser Valley since 1976 and has lived in the Abbotsford-Mission riding for over 14 years. Simon is a graduate of four universities including an honors degree in journalism from Carleton University in Ottawa and a Ph.D. from Simon Fraser University. He taught in the School of Business at the University of the Fraser Valley specializing in Human Resources Management, Entrepreneurship and Marketing. He also taught professional communications at Trinity Western University and Douglas College. Prior to his election, Simon served on Abbotsford Council for three decades and has been active in numerous boards and committees. He is married to Joy (38 years) and they have two daughters and two grandsons.
