MP Kent MacDonald, Cardigan

MP Kent MacDonald

Gracious God, we lift up the Honourable Kent MacDonald, MP, as he represents his constituents and serves in Ottawa. We thank You for sustaining him in this role, which is so different from his past work as a dairy farmer. We pray for his family as they continue to manage the responsibilities of the farm. Grant them strength and provision as they carry on this important work. We also pray for Kent’s safety in travel and for good health as he journeys frequently and spends time away from his family. May Kent experience You in a fresh way, remembering that Your mercies are new every morning. May this be not only a new chapter in his career, but also a season where he encounters Your power and presence more deeply than ever before. We pray all of this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Kent MacDonald is a seventh-generation dairy farmer from Little Pond, PEI. He is the President of Pondsedge Farms, his family’s 1000-head dairy farm that grows 1700 acres of cropped land. He attended Dundas Consolidated and Souris Regional High School before Mount Allison University where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in marketing and management. Kent played varsity football at Mount Allison and was an Atlantic University Sport All-Star defensive lineman. He lived and worked in Ontario for several years after graduating from Mount Allison. Kent returned home to PEI in 1988 to work at Pondsedge Farms, the family business. Pondsedge has won numerous awards under Kent’s leadership, including the PEI Heritage Award, Soil Conservationist of the Year, PEI Veterinary Association Cow Comfort Award, and various quality and high-production awards. He has been a Director, Vice-Chairman, and Chairman of Dairy Farmers of PEI, as well as Director and Vice-Chairman of the PEI Federation of Agriculture. Kent’s community involvement overlaps with his love of sports, and he has coached both minor hockey and tackle football on PEI. Family is important to Kent, having grown up with five brothers and a sister. Pondsedge Farms is a family business with his brothers, nephew, and son. He has been married to his wife, Catherine, for 35 years, and they have one son. In his spare time, Kent enjoys reading, golf, and hiking with his two dogs, Chief and Baker.
