MPP Doly Begum, Scarborough Southwest

Father in Heaven, we pray that you help us to seek your Kingdom first and foremost, knowing that everything else of lesser importance will fall into place. We pray that we would obey your commandments and love you God with all of our heart, mind, body, soul and strength. Thank you for the life of Dolly Begum, may she know you and be your hands and feet to the people she serves in her position as Critic, Immigration Services and International Credentials Deputy Leader, Official Opposition Member, Standing Committee on Government Agencies. Give her the strength and refreshing she needs to manage these roles. In Jesus’ name Amen! 

Ms. Begum from Scarborough Southwest serves as a member of the New Democratic Party of Ontario. Her role in parliament is the Critic in Early Learning and Childcare and Deputy Opposition Whip. Doly came to Canada from Bangladesh as a child with her parents and younger brother. She has lived in Scarborough for most of her life. As a candidate, she became the first-ever Bengali to win a seat in the Ontario parliament, in the election held on June 7, 2018. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto and has a Masters in Development, Administration & Planning from University College London. As Co-Chair of the Scarborough Health Coalition and Vice-Chair of Warden Woods Community Centre, she has worked hard to make lives better for the people of Scarborough. Doly was the chief coordinator of the province-wide Keep Hydro Public campaign that successfully stopped the privatization of Toronto Hydro and Wasaga Distribution.
