As we pray today for Seasonal Workers, let’s believe together that God is changing their lives and destinies, and worship the One who restores our nation. We will pray from some adapted verses from Psalm 72.
Lord, as the psalmist prayed in Psalm 72, we pray also for blessing on the rulers of our land, and that through them all the people of Canada will be blessed with prosperity. We invite you to endow the provincial and federal government leaders with your justice as they oversee those afflicted recently with job losses. May these leaders lead with righteousness related to the laws and services that govern workers, especially in the camps, sports groups, garden centres, landscaping teams, and many others serving as seasonal workers.
We pray that those with wealth will help those in need due to the economic downturn, and pray that you will change the hearts of those who are unconcerned for workers at this time. May these companies, workplaces, government programs, and other establishments help to bring back the prosperity needed by the people, just as you made the hills and fields bring forth the fruit of righteousness for your people in times of old. Stand up for the poor, help the children of the needy, and come bring just rewards to those employers who are cruel and self-serving.
God, let your righteousness burst into blossom again and may peace abound until the moon fades to nothing. Rule, oh Lord, from sea to sea, from the territories to our neighbours to the south. We pray that all kings and rulers far and wide will fall down and worship and godless nations sign up to serve you because you rescue the poor at the first sign of need, and the destitute who have run out of luck. We pray through just and fair legislation, that ‘all nations (including Canada) will be blessed’. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we pray, amen.
