We pray for Senator Brian Francis who is one of the representatives of PEI in the Canadian Senate. He is one of several people of authority who have been called to lead our Country in the Senate which is the institution that gives “sober second thought” to legislation before it becomes law. Indeed, senators can propose their own bills and suggest improvements to bills from the House of Commons. Therefore, Father, we ask that You guide him with the following: We pray that Brian would serve his riding and this nation with complete integrity and diligence. That Brian would be continually committed to our Nation and province in every way as he oversees the important task of scrutinizing bills that could affect the basic fabric of our island and nation. That Brian would be diligent and that You would give him wisdom, insight and discernment and balance daily to do the job that he has been given. That Brian would have love and patience for and with all those he serves, supervises and comes into contact with. That Brian and his family would draw closer to You every day and that his family would be safe, secure, and healthy. In the precious name of Jesus we pray! Amen!
Senator Brian Francis was appointed to the Senate of Canada on October 11, 2018, becoming the first person of Mi’kmaq descent from Prince Edward Island to serve in this role. He brings 40 years of combined government experience, including work as Aboriginal Coordinator with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans from 2002 to 2007. Coming from a fishing family, he used his expertise to support PEI First Nations in implementing fisheries funding agreements. He was also a signatory to the Canada/PEI/Mi’kmaq Partnership and Consultation Agreements, which established frameworks for consultation on actions affecting Aboriginal and treaty rights. From 2007 to 2018, Francis served as Chief and Band Administrator of the Abegweit Mi’kmaq Nation. During his tenure, he advanced education, employment, and infrastructure projects, including a hatchery, water tower, paving, and housing developments. He lives near Charlottetown with his wife, Georgina, and together they are proud parents and grandparents.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
